Hello,
Anybody knows what's the effects caused by a Server Domains Change?
I'm planning to change a Domain of my SQL Server that actually has a trust
with the current Domain of this server.
I think that I don't need to do nothing after this change. I'm correct?
Thanks

Changing The Physical Server
Hi,
I have Production Database on one server which shares the space with
many other databases. Now I am planning to shift the database to
another (separate) physical server.
As long as data and logins are concerned I can transfer it to the
new database server. But I also have many of the critical scheduled
Jobs and DTS packages on the existing server. Is there any way through
which I can get these DTS packages and Jobs on the new server?
regards
Rohit

changing SQL server service account
Guys,
I have got WINDOWS 2000 Advanced Server and MS SQL SERVER 7.0 running on my live server. Now when we are planning for replication, we have found that SQL server will require to run under a domain account. At the moment there are so many ASP pages running on our server accesses different databases created using SQL server 7.0. Most of them are DSN connections to the database. Now if i create a domain account and restart the server and MS SQL services with the domain account, how is it going to effect the current web pages running on it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
ThanksA connection to a database has no bearing on what account starts the sql server service. However the account used does affect how the server interacts with other sql servers, or other machine resources, you found that out when you tried to implement replication using LocalSystem account. You can search msdn for "sql server service account" to get a better understanding of the purpose of accounts for sql server.|||Thanks very much Greg,
your reply helped me to have better understanding.
I would find out more from MSDN as you have suggested.
Cheers.

changing sa password
hi everyone
i am planning to change sa password in my Development server as too many
people know the password. I am trying this first time.
Can someone please let me know any impacts of changing sa password?
or I can change the password as normal way to changing password.
Thank you

If you have an application that connected to the SQL Server wit a Mixed Mode
, so you will have to change the password there. As well as Linked Servers
that was defined by providing username and password. And finally , if you
was connected to the EM by an old password the error will be thrown.

To Add on to Uri;
Execute sp_who in frequent intervals and identify the users / application
who are using SA user to access sql server. Then send out an
email to all of them intimating that you are going to change the password
for SA.
Give them some time to change and after that do below:-
1. Change the Applcation connection strings to use new user
2. Change the Linked server security credentials if SA is used
3. EM registrations if you store password ( Avoid storing passwords)
Thanks

If you have an application that connected to the SQL Server wit a Mixed Mode
, so you will have to change the password there. As well as Linked Servers
that was defined by providing username and password. And finally , if you
was connected to the EM by an old password the error will be thrown.

To Add on to Uri;

Changing IP addresses
We are planning on changing IP addresses on two database
servers that have SQL transactional replication between
them. Before I get into any trouble, do you see any
problem that could occur regarding the replication
communication between the servers. My plan is to change
the IP addresses and reboot the servers. I won't know
until I do this if the replication will start back up
successfully.
replication is insensitive to IP address changes.
there are some caveats
1) if you are using the client network utility to associate the IP address with the machine name you will have to update the ip addresses
2) if you are using a hosts file for name lookup s to associate the IP address with the machine name you will have to update the ip addresses in this file

Changing Default Names
I am planning to change the default names from
'DF__tablename__columnname_28F7FFC9'to
'tablename_columnname_df'.
Depending on the number of default columns 'df1, df2,
df3 ....e.t.c' will be added.
I am going to rename them in the 'sysobjects' table where
I see the only location for them.
Is there any side effects to this ?.
Thanks for any help.Hard to say if there are side effects; it's not the supported way of
renaming objects. Instead, use sp_rename. Look up syntax in BOL.

Depending on the number of default columns 'df1, df2,
df3 ....e.t.c' will be added.
I am going to rename them in the 'sysobjects' table where
I see the only location for them.
Is there any side effects to this ?.
Thanks for any help.
Hard to say if there are side effects; it's not the supported way of
renaming objects. Instead, use sp_rename. Look up syntax in BOL.

create table a(id int)

create table b (id int)
GO
alter table b add constraint r_b default (1) for id

sp_rename 'r_b', 'r_c', 'object'

Changing Database Structure After Application Deployment
Hi,
We're planning to rewrite a program of ours from ms-dos with a dbase
database to windows using ado and msaccess or sqlserver 2000. now we have
the problem of database maintenance. because the program is going to be
deployed to multiple customers, we don't want to manually change the
database structure. In dos we had a mechanism with a table which stored the
table definitions, and a table which stored the index definitions. now we
want something similiar to that for windows, and it would be even nicer if
the solution is crossdatabase. it's fine if the "new" database structure(the
structure which the customer doesn't have) is stored in an xml file or
similar.
thanks in advance,
