You could use xp_smtp_sendmail (see http://www.aspfaq.com/2403)

Once I had a commandline program which was able to send also via SMTP.
But this could be easily reprogrammed in .NET or another programming
language covering the same functionality. If you are interested in,
just send me a mail.

Changing SSRS reports datasource.
I have a web site that has reports stored in two places. The local site, and in SSRS.The local reports get there data from a class that has a dataset method on it.I would like to store all my reports in SSRS.Is this possible? Can I get just the RDL of a report from the SSRS web service, or change the dataset to what my class generates?
You can adopt one to two approaches:
1) store the RDLC you'll use in a report viewer control on the report server as a resouce.
2) store actual RDL in the report server and use the GetReportDefinition method to obtain the RDL.
What is interesting here is that the data source definitions between the RDLC the control expect and the RDL that the server expects is a little different.
Here's the reference for GetReportDefinition:

Changing report schedule according to job completion
problem is that the reports should only be refreshed once the data load is
complete.
I checked the ReportServer database and noticed that the schedule is stored

data load is finished)?

Changing PDF Output Orientation
PDF format reports. However, the default report orientation is PORTRAIT
but this format causes the reports to be generated in a very unreadable
way.
Is there a solution to changing the orientation to LANDSCAPE?
Thanks. You can't change the orientation directly - you need to change the
height and width values for the report page (from 11 x 8 1/2 to 8 1/2 x
11).
You also need to ensure the size of the body and the margins are
consistent with these settings.
The Acrobat reader will automatically rotate the page if you have these
settings correct - check the Acrobat settings, too, as it is possible
to have the auto rotate feature turned off.
Changing Page Orientation for Sub Reports
sub-reports we need to print in landscape orientation. We have been unable
to figure out how to set the page orientation for sub-reports. We also
looked to see if we could create "sections" (like MS Word) where we could
configure page breaks and page orientation.
Can anyone point us in the right direction?
Thanks,
ChrisUnfortunately, this is not supported in the current release. Other than some
sort of wrapper that chains together multiple reports, I can't think of how
you would do this.

Changing order of columns at run time
I want to be able to create a report (typically these reports are
"table like" reports ... in other words, several columns with a list
of data underneath) and I want to be able to re-order the columns (not
the rows) in these reports at runtime.
So, for instance, if the "report design" is as follows:
COLUMNA COLUMNB COLUMNC
... data goes here ...
... I'd like to be able to pass a parameter in to the report that may
be, for instance, "COLUMNC,COLUMNB,COLUMNA" ... and report columns
would re-order, like follows:
COLUMNC COLUMNB COLUMNA
... data goes here ...
... I don't really care what report designer object is used (Table,
Matrix, etc) ... but I don't yet see a good way to do this. It seems
like the Matrix object might be able to do this via the ColumnGroups
"Sorting" tab ... but I don't seem to be able to come up with an
expression that can make this occur.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

If you are using a matrix report, you can control the column layout
(assuming you know the column names prior to runtime) by adding spaces
in front of the names of the columns (like values in the pivot column)
and ordering/sorting by ascending order. If you are using a table
control, you can allow the user to select a sort order (asc/desc) in
the report and then set the columns in the returned resultset
accordingly. Hope this helps.

Changing layout for report
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the layout of reports? I'm

Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so, how can I achieve this?

Changing language helps ( rrRenderingError) but.....
Of what is the language dependent? server properties ?
Can you explain how the export to PDF-format effects the report-language
properties and/or serverproperties ?
Thanks in AdvanceLanguage is a Report property.
Open the Properties window (F4), and select 'Report' from the dropdown list.
Language is the second-last property displayed.
If you set it to Dutch, functions like Month() will return Dutch month names.

changing lable in bar chart
hi all
i am using bar chart in my reports , i want to show the intervel on my y axis like
0k,2k,4k,6k,.......
but it is showing like 0,2000,4000,6000 .... by default . i dont know hoe to achieve this please help.
Hi,
In the Value expression for the Data you are showing, divide by 1000. For example if the expression currently is
Fields!XYZ.Value, make it Fields!XYZ.Value/1000.
Then go to the Y Axis tab and in the Format Code option, put the value 0k.
I think this should give you the desired output.

Changing Default Rendering Method of Reports
Ladies and Gents,
I have a question with regards to the default rendering extensions for reports. I am using RS 2005 with SP1.
I am accessing a report as follows:
http://<ReportServerName>/Reportserver?/<Folder>/<Report Name>
Sample: http://TestServer/Reportserver?/Special Reports/Dealer Report
This displays the parameter bar and the view report button. When pressing the view report button, the report is automatically rendered into HTML 4.0. Is there a way to use the existing parameter bar and automatically render the report to a different extension (such as PDF) when the parameters are entered and the View Report Button is pressed.
Thank You for any advice you can give,
Raph
No, but you can specify the render format in the report URL, e.g. http://TestServer/Reportserver?/Special Reports/Dealer Report&rs:Format=PDF&rs:Command=Render|||Teo,
Thank you for your reply, and for all the other documents and articles you have created about reporting services. They have been a great help during my current project.
I was trying to prevent reinventing the wheel. By that, I mean having to create a web form to capture the parameters for our reports when the report server seems to have one that works effectively (with the exception that the default format of report rendering is HTML 4.0 which behaves very poorly with alternative browsers) .
If you have any advice on any existing parameter capture tool that anyone has developed with RS that will allow us to choose the render method, I would be happy to take it.
Again, Thanks for the quick reply.
Raph
|||I understand but the standard toolbar is not customizable and you have no way to capture the event. If this was a custom web application and use the ASP.NET 2.0 ReportViewer control, then you could capture the event. Now, if you want to get innovative, you could create an HttpHandler that will change the URL requests accordingly. If you decide to do so, you may find my RSHttpHandler sample useful (see the Chapter 18 code in this download).|||Teo,
Again, thanks for the help. I will look into your suggestions and see if they can be leveraged to meet our needs.
Raph
|||I have a question similar to this - about changing default rendering:
I only want to change the default zoom to be page width. I'm not sure if I'm able to do this in the following environment:
RS 2005 SP2 on top of SharePoint Services 3.0 - I'm using the ReportViewer web part. Given that real estate is a bit of an issue when rendering webparts in a sharepoint page with other content, I'd like the default zoom to be page width based on the height and width of the webpart - so that I don't have to scroll horizontally within the webpart to see the report.
I know you can resize the webpart window - but I've got other content on the page, and I can't make it large enough to display the report width, so I'd like the default zoom to fit the size of the webpart (at least horizontally, scrolling vertically is not a big deal.
Is there a way to set this so that the Report Viewer web part can be configured to do this?
Thanks
|||I'm not really sure whether you could do this using your current technology, but it certainly seems possible:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms152835.aspx
|||Unfortunately, the Report Viewer web part doesn't surface the ZoomMode property of the underlying ASP.NET Report Viewer control. I suggest you add this to the wish list.|||I had to write my own web part to accomplish this in sts 2.0. SQL Server 2005 Service pack 2 was released recently, this allows you to run Sharepoint integration mode and possibly get a better view on reports. The following example uses the rc:Zoom parameter to set the zoom property of the report to Page Width: http://servername/reportserver?/Sales/YearlySalesSummary&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=HTML4.0&rc:Zoom=Page Width

If you have any advice on any existing parameter capture tool that anyone has developed with RS that will allow us to choose the render method, I would be happy to take it.
Again, Thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks

Changing Default Rendering Method of Reports
Ladies and Gents,
I have a question with regards to the default rendering extensions for reports. I am using RS 2005 with SP1.
I am accessing a report as follows:
http://<ReportServerName>/Reportserver?/<Folder>/<Report Name>
Sample: http://TestServer/Reportserver?/Special Reports/Dealer Report
This displays the parameter bar and the view report button. When pressing the view report button, the report is automatically rendered into HTML 4.0. Is there a way to use the existing parameter bar and automatically render the report to a different extension (such as PDF) when the parameters are entered and the View Report Button is pressed.
Thank You for any advice you can give,
Raph
No, but you can specify the render format in the report URL, e.g. http://TestServer/Reportserver?/Special Reports/Dealer Report&rs:Format=PDF&rs:Command=Render|||Teo,
Thank you for your reply, and for all the other documents and articles you have created about reporting services. They have been a great help during my current project.

changing datasource to SQL Server
I have a set of reports that were created using the report designer in
Visual Studio. They were originally written to run against an Informix
database, but I now need to change them to run against an SQL Server
DB. I added a new datasource for the SQL Server DB, but couldn't find
*any* way to change the reports to point to this new datasource. I've
worked around this problem by changing the properties of the existing
(Informix) datasource to point to the SQL Server DB, but if anyone
knows how to change *just* the datasource of a report, I'd be very
grateful if they'd let me know.
The queries that the reports execute currently use '?' to indicate an
Informix SQL parameter, but I believe SQL Server uses '@.param_name'
instead. If I replace each ? with @.param_name (in the 'SQL' pane of
the 'Data' tab) and map each @.param_name to the corresponding
ReportParameter, will this work, or is there something else I need to
do?
Thanks in Advance,
DonThe way you change the datasource is by going to the dataset, click on the
... and change the datasource. Or you can edit the rdl. Yes, changing and
remapping the parameters should work. One problem you will have is that RS
will try to create the report parameters so you very well will end up with
extra report parameters that you have to remove. Or, do this. Make sure you
have a copy of the rdl. Open up the report into the designer and go into
code view. Edit the xml with the parameter mapping, save, go to layout and
preview and see if it works.

Thanks very much for your response. I thought about editing the .rdl
directly in order to change the datasource, but the autogenerated IDs
scared me off - what exactly are these used for?
I'm aware that RS adds report parameters whenever you change an SQL
parameters - it's an annoying "feature", but not catastrophic. Are you
saying that if I replace every reference to the '?' parameters with a
'@.param' in the XML code then I won't have to deal with this?
Thanks Again,
Don|||Yep. I also do this sometimes when I am modifying a complicated SQL
Statement because sometimes with ODBC datasource it loses all the mappings
and I have to remap so I will go in and modify the SQL so the helpful IDE
doesn't mess everything up. Again, make a copy because it is easy to mess up
the xml.

Changing Databases
structures.
I want to be able to use one set of reports on my report server to run
against either database. How can I achieve this? Whenever I run the report
it always runs against whatever the datasource points at.
NickWhat you do is write a stored procedure for your sql need in third database
other than those two and write in a way that it can accept database name and
then fully qualify your object name and build a dynamic sql in the proc. Use
this proc in RS to buid one dataset and create another dataset with simple
query like "select dbname from sysdatabases where <criteira of your
interest>". Use this dataset as a input to the parameters of the first
database so the final report will have at least one parameter to pick a
database name from the dropdown list and you can run your report off of
selected database. I have implemented this way and I am running my report
off of more than two database from one server and it works great. Let me
know if you have any difficulties. email me.
